In a break from our usual format, this week’s RadioTalk was recorded at the Radio Academy London Branch event about the art of the voiceover.
If there’s one thing that all station imaging and promo producers need, it’s someone who’s good with their mouth. Whether it’s helping to create an identity for your station or sell a brand, we all rely on good voice over artists.
These strange creatures spend most of their working lives in padded rooms with voices in their head telling them what to say. But how do VOs become VOs, and as a producer, what’s the best way to direct them to get them at their best?
Trevor is joined by Peter Dickson (X Factor, E4), Dave Wartnaby (Kiss, Heart) and Laura Shavin (BBC Radio 4 comedy and ILR commercials) who audition for the role of RadioTalk VO, we hear extracts from the session itself (hosted by Jon Holmes of The Now Show and BBC 6 Music), and we end with an insight into the session from London Branch committee member Ali Rezakhani and other attendees.

For this podcast I managed to get over an hour of event audio down to 8 minutes! I felt very pleased with myself afterwards.
