Watching the Queen not singing the National Anthem at the Royal Wedding on Friday made me wonder what anthems she would be able to sing…
The obvious one. Very bombastic and triumphalist. And a great way to spread the word about one of our greatest ever poets.
Could we do an anthem without words like the Spanish?
My favourite idea so far. Considering the amount of times I’ve heard this, I still get shivers. Our most famous export, with upbeat, positive, idealistic lyrics that inspire and encourage people to achieve, rather than to take up arms. My vote would be for this.
